Among the revelations in Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11

is the fact that troops stationed in Iraq have been using the

Bloodhound Gang's "Fire Water Burn," as a pre-battle anthem. The

song -- which borrows the chorus "The roof, the roof is on fire/We

don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn/Burn, motherfucker,

burn" from Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three's 1985 rap hit

"The Roof Is On Fire" -- is sung ironically, but the film shows

troops relishing a more literal interpretation.

In a posting on the Bloodhound Gang's official Web site, the

band expresses little concern for the missed irony: "As long as our

troops aren't illegally downloading our songs, we could care less

if we're killing machine bed music. We would rather the Bloodhound

Gang be 'The Soundtrack to War' than Creed. Now that would be

embarrassing. Our president is a clown, so Michael Moore invited

the whole world to laugh at him. We're proud to be a part of

that."

Though the band, known for songs like "I Wish I Was Queer So I

Could Get Chicks" and "A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When the

Stripper Is Crying," and the filmmaker take on slightly different

subject matter, the Bloodhound Gang profess to have found a kindred

spirit in Moore: "Michael Moore kicks ass. He's the master of

delivering a compelling point in an entertaining manner. So, when

he asked us to use 'Fire Water Burn' in Fahrenheit 9/11,

we not only said 'fuck yeah,' but waived our normal fee. Anyone

that pisses people off while making them laugh is OK in our

book."
slow, silent death right about now, but it seems to be breathing just

fine without needing to come up for air. Linkin Park are the latest

guitar-swinging, lyric-dropping scratch wizards to simultaneously

glorify the big riff while bowing down at the altar of hip-hop. In the

course of a single song they let their guitars run amok, push plodding

rhythms and growl like angry dogs roused from sleep -- all while

dexterously zipping back and forth along record grooves. Linkin Park

formed in 1996, but all the pieces didn't fall into place until 2001

when Warner Brothers released Hybrid Theory,

dubbed after the band's original name. Thanks to "In the End," the

album was a massive hit and the second single, "Crawling," won them a

Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance." Despite a somewhat cool

reception from anyone over the age of 13, Linkin Park claimed a spot at

the very top of the heap in the early 2000s nu-metal arena. They have

since released an album of Hybrid Theory remixes, a studio

album and a live album chronicling their extensive tours. A single (and

a subsequent album)called "Numb/Encore," featuring a collaboration with

rapper Jay-Z, was released in 2004; both album and single hit No. 1,

and firmly reset Linkin Park's place at the top of the charts. In 2005

the band concentrated on a number of relief efforts, including the

tsunami that devastated Southeast Asia and hurricane Katrina.

Infernal Majesty (H.I.M.) are likely the most love-friendly headbangers

of all time. Their brand of big guitar crunches, metal harmonies, sweet

vocal croons and catchy choruses makes them something like the Bon Jovi

of goth. The band formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1995 as a Black

Sabbath cover band but quickly switched to original material, although

a 1996 cover of "Wicked Game" gave them their initial popularity. They

built a huge Scandinavian and German fan base -- although their

glammish lead vocalist, Ville Hermanni Valo, sings in English --

following the release of Razorblade Romance

in 2000. That disc was released under the rubric of HER in the United

States due to a conflict with Chicago post-rockers H.i.M. The band

finally broke in the U.S. with Love Metal, an album championed by Jackass skateboarder Bam Margera
